What the programme is
Manipal University Jaipur launched in 2011 at the invitation of the Government of Rajasthan. It is a self financed state private university, and it is entitled by the UGC to award online degrees that hold the same status as its campus degrees.
The online MBA runs over four semesters and 90 credits. Semesters 1 and 2 cover the core: economics, accounting, marketing, operations, finance, people management, and a data visualisation paper in Excel and Tableau. Semesters 3 and 4 are where you specialise, with four elective subjects in each.
Around 160,000 people are studying online with Manipal, and about 20,000 have already finished an online degree. Learners come from more than 2,000 towns and cities and 40 nationalities.

Eligibility and how you are taught
Teaching runs through the learning management system. You get live virtual classrooms and the recordings afterwards, so the class you miss is still the class you can take.
Alongside the lectures there are simulations, interactive material, discussion forums and e-content, plus webinars and projects with people working in the field.
A 10+2+3 year bachelor degree from a recognised university or institution, or a qualification the Association of Indian Universities treats as equivalent.
A minimum 50% aggregate in graduation. 45% if you are from a reserved category.
If you studied 10+2 or your degree outside India, an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities.
[[VERIFY: the prospectus lists no entrance or aptitude test. Confirm in writing with MUJ before stating this either way on the page.]]
Working graduates who want a management degree without leaving a job, and who can sit an online proctored exam from home on a laptop or desktop with a webcam.
People coming back to study after a gap. The prospectus features learners who returned after several years away from academics.
Anyone who needs the degree recognised abroad later. MUJ is WES recognised and an ACU member.

- Each elective subject carries 4 credits.
- The final semester Project carries 6 credits.
What two years actually looks like
Most pages about this degree will tell you it is UGC entitled and then show you a fee table. Here is the part that decides whether it fits your week.
How the teaching reaches you
Course material sits on the learning management system, built on the four quadrant approach set out in the UGC Credit Framework for online learning courses through SWAYAM, 2016.
In practice that means six kinds of material: video lectures, virtual classrooms, virtual simulation, e-content, interactive material and discussion forums. Live classes happen on a schedule. Recordings stay available, so the class you miss on a bad week is still there on a good one.
What you get access to
- An e-library of more than 1,80,000 e-books, e-databases and journals.
- More than 110 hours of foundation and skill courses, free, which the prospectus values at INR 50,000.
- Coursera as an optional paid add on: INR 3,999 against a stated INR 13,999, for 12,000+ courses, valid one year from activation. You can add it during or after admission. It is not included in the fee.
- Sessions, webinars and projects with people working in industry.
The 110 hours of foundation courses are free. Coursera is not. Some other sites say otherwise.
How you are marked
Each theory paper is split 70:30 between the term end exam and continuous assessment. Continuous assessment is assignments set by the university. The term end paper mixes descriptive and multiple choice questions. You need at least 40% in both parts, not 40% overall.
Where a subject has a practical component the split flips to 30:70, and an external examiner attends on the last day of the practical sessions. The 40% rule applies to both parts there too.
Results go to the student portal. If you fail a paper, in either part, you apply to resit it and pay the resit fee before the due date.
The exam requirement people miss
Semester end exams are computer based and online proctored. You sit them at home, and you need a laptop or desktop with a working webcam and an internet connection. A phone will not do.
Your exam schedule arrives on the photo admit card.
If you do not have a laptop or desktop with a webcam, this programme will not work for you. Worth knowing now rather than after you have paid.
What the certificate says
The degree certificate carries the line "Mode of Delivery: Online". The transcript records the medium of instruction as English and the mode of examination as remote proctored online examinations.
This is worth saying plainly, because it is on the document and you will see it eventually. It does not reduce what the degree is: the UGC entitles these online degrees as equivalent to the campus degree, and MUJ prints a verification address on the transcript so an employer can check it directly.
Fees
You pay by semester, not in one lump. For Indian nationals that is INR 45,000 at a time.
| Nationality | Per semester | Full course |
|---|---|---|
| Indian nationals | INR 45,000 | INR 1,80,000 |
| Non resident Indians | USD 693 | USD 2,772 |
| Other nationals | USD 809 | USD 3,236 |
- A non refundable application fee of INR 500 applies to Indian, Nepalese, Bhutanese, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan applicants.
- Applicants from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka pay in Indian rupees.
- Coursera, if you want it, is a separate INR 3,999.
Scholarships
The prospectus lists scholarships for defence personnel, government employees, differently abled applicants and meritorious students. It does not publish an amount, so ask a counsellor what you qualify for.
